Syllabus
This is a tentative outline of topics we will cover in the near future. Dates and topics may vary depending on circumstances.
This summer we will be doing a series called "Genesis, Jesus... and Gerunds." We will cover Genesis in June, Jesus in July and Gerunds (for Christian Living) in August. This will give us all an overview of some of the most important topics for a Christian.
Each couple of weeks, a little tidbit will also be given about the biblical legacy of CBP.
JUNE -- Genesis
Genesis means beginnings. It relates the first several thousand years of humanity. In this book, the foundations for all essential doctrine (biblical teaching) is found. So it is indispensable to understand Genesis in order to more fully understand Jesus.
The book of Genesis, written by Moses under God's inspiration, may be divided into several sections. We will briefly cover all sections in two meetings of 4 sections each and one meeting covering 3 sections. The last section will actually be from the book of Exodus.
June 07 -- Creation, Fall, Humanity's First Age, Great Flood
June 14 -- The Nations, Abraham, Ishmael & Isaac, Jacob/Israel
June 21 -- Father's Day Special Meeting
June 28 -- Twelve Sons' Heritage, Joseph, A Small Lead-In to Exodus: The Ten Commandments
JULY -- Jesus
Jesus is no small character. He is historical and He is God. Every religion has included Jesus into their explanations of things. Jesus is too big to ignore. Jesus' life on earth may be divided into 4 sections. We will briefly cover these plus His post-ascension life.
July 05 -- Jesus' Birth and Childhood, Jesus' Ministry: The First Year and a Half
July 12 -- Jesus' Ministry: The Second Year and a Half
July 19 -- Jesus' Death, Resurrection and Ascension, Jesus' Post-Ascension Life
July 26 -- Jesus' Return: Rapture, Millennium and the New Earth
AUGUST -- Gerunds (for Christian Living)
A gerund is "an English verbal noun ending in -ing that has the uses of the noun" (Webster's New World Dictionary). In August we will put together what we learned about Genesis and Jesus and attempt to understand a few basic concepts about Christianity and Christian living. The title of each of these lessons will be gerunds.
